A Model of Managing
Uncertainty
Designers must function in highly complex situations, maintaining a high level vision and making concrete progress while remaining open to new possibilities. In order to better make sense of this observation, I made a model, based on Gary Klein's framing model of expert decision making, that represents different kinds of unknowns to be managed while designing: uncertainty, confidence and commitment.
